Princess Diana Looks to Inspire Your Fall Wardrobe

Lady Di's sartorial influence continues to persist in our wardrobes today.

When it comes to fall dressing, no one else did it best than Princess Diana. From a young teacher placed under overwhelming scrutiny by British tabloids to a confident modern royal whose off-duty looks composed of mom jeans and letterman jackets inspired a generation of style mavens today.

The People's Princess, a nickname given to her by former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, remains as one of the most highly-publicized royal figures to this day despite her tragic passing in 1997. Several Hollywood adaptations of Diana's life have made their way into theatres and several streaming platforms throughout the years, with an upcoming film starring Kristen Stewart titled Spencer set to be released on November 5, 2021.

There is an essence of timelessness in Diana's unparalleled style. The late princess' workout looks that consisted of oversized sweatshirts and bright-colored biker shorts influenced several brands such as Sporty & Rich and Museum of Peace and Quiet to develop their collections and campaign shoots inspired by the late princess' sporty-chic aesthetic. In 2019, Hailey Beiber emulated Diana's iconic off-duty look in a photoshoot where the model donned jeans, a baseball cap, and a blazer—a look that Diana wore to a 1988 polo match. Luxury houses today honor Princess Diana with iconic pieces that were persistently used by the late princess, such as the Lady Dior purse which she was often photographed wearing. Earlier this year, Gucci launched a re-edition of the Italian house's iconic bamboo tote naming it the Diana bag.

After her separation from Prince Charles in 1992, Lady Di showcased her newfound confidence and contemporary style choices that shaped the fall fashion trends of the '90s. Like many of us, Princess Diana's cool-weather ensembles leaned towards fall time essentials from turtlenecks and denim jeans to cardigans and stockings. Yet what makes the late princess a persisting style icon is her ability to look effortlessly cool by incorporating staple basics with classic pieces; pairing blue jeans with an oversized blazer, comfy sweatshirts with a pair of Chelsea boots, a warm sweater over a button-down shirt-striking a balance between chic and contemporary that transcends through the test of time. Princess Diana cultivated a fall wardrobe that consists of everyday basics that are essential to getting us through the crisp fall weather.

From bomber jackets to oversized coats, we celebrate Princess Diana's enduring style this season with her iconic looks that will inspire your fall wardrobe
