Prince Harry to take Meghan on 'emotional pilgrimage' to Diana's grave

Meghan Markle will visit the grave of her late mother-in-law as the 22nd anniversary of her death approaches. He said Meghan and his mother would have been 'best friends' if they'd have met.

Prince Harry is said to want to take his wife and their newborn son Archie to Princess Diana’s grave around the end of this month.

Prince Harry has previously opened up about how he would have loved Meghan to meet Diana, saying the pair would have been ‘best friends’. The Princess is buried in the grounds of her childhood home, the Spencer family estate, at Althorp in Northhampshire.

The Mail Online reports Harry wants her to see his mother’s resting place, where a memorial house has also been set up in her name. He and Prince William usually visit their mother’s grave twice a year, to mark her birthday on July 1 and the anniversary of her death on August 31.

Harry has maintained a close bond with Diana’s family. Her sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes, were included in the family portrait taken at Windsor Castle after Archie’s christening last month.

When Harry proposed to Meghan in 2017, he gave her a custom-made ring which featured two diamonds from his mother’s jewellery collection.

In a television interview that followed their engagement announcement, Meghan said: ‘In not being able to meet his mum, it’s so important for me to know that she’s a part of this with us.’

The couple recently paid a public tribute to the Princess when they shared on social media an inspirational quote she is remembered for saying. It said: ‘Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.’ Earl Spencer and Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
