The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, has been granted permission to appeal against the dismissal of his high court challenge regarding changes to his personal security in the UK.

Prince Harry’s legal action was directed against the Home Office's Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) concerning the level of taxpayer-funded protection allocated to him when visiting the country.

Retired high court judge Sir Peter Lane previously rejected Harry’s case in February 2024, deeming Ravec's decision as neither irrational nor procedurally unfair.

After losing an initial appeal attempt, Prince Harry directly sought permission from the court of appeal, which was granted by Lord Justice Bean on 23 May. Judge Lane's February ruling criticized the formal interpretation by Harry's lawyers and upheld Ravec’s legally sound process established in February 2020.

Following the dismissal, Harry's legal spokesperson expressed intentions to appeal for a fair application of Ravec’s rules, aiming for equal consideration consistent with Ravec’s policies.
