Prince Andrew still nowhere to be seen as new Beatrice wedding photos released
Prince Andrew, the father-of-the-bride, has not been pictured in official images released to celebrate his daughter’s wedding.
The Duke of York is understood to have not wanted to overshadow Beatrice’s big day, when she married property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
His fall from grace is illustrated in his absence from the publicly shared images, in the wake of his disastrous interview with Newsnight about his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In the pictures, only the Queen, 94, and Prince Philip, 99, are included alongside Beatrice and Edoardo.
Prince Andrew was also absent when Edoardo shared more images on Instagram, along with a poem from EE Cummings, I Carry Your Heart With Me.
He walked his daughter down the aisle and attended the secret event alongside former wife Sarah Ferguson and Edoardo’s parents.
The bride’s sister Princess Eugenie, 30, and her husband Jack Brooksbank also attended and Edoardo’s son Wolfie, three, from a previous relationship, was best man and page boy.
A royal source told The Times: ‘The Duke of York wants people to celebrate his daughter getting married rather than focusing on him.
‘If the duke had been in the pictures, the circus across the pond would have started up, and people would have accused him of trying to ram himself into a picture with the Queen. You can’t win.
‘The one thing nobody can criticise the duke for is his love for his daughters, and he doesn’t want to be a distraction for his daughter’s wedding.’
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: ‘The couple decided to hold a small private ceremony with their parents and siblings following the postponement of their wedding in May. Working within government guidelines, the service was in keeping with the unique circumstances while enabling them to celebrate their wedding with their closest family.’
