Former Duke of York, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, is now subject to a London police inquiry into potential criminal misconduct as allegations surface that he asked a police officer in 2011 to investigate his accuser, Virginia Giuffre.

This follows his removal of royal titles in late October 2025 and intensifies scrutiny over his relationship with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.

At the same time, his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, is under investigation for her involvement in managing proceeds from charity and endorsement revenue.

Several major UK charities have severed ties with her following the emergence of a formerly private email referencing convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein as a “supreme friend.”

Campaign group Republic has initiated legal preparations to mount a private prosecution of Andrew under allegations of sexual assault, corruption and misconduct in public office, signalling an unprecedented legal move outside official police action.

The Metropolitan Police have acknowledged they are “actively looking” into the new claims.

Ferguson’s case follows scandal-driven charity withdrawals as at least seven organisations distanced themselves following the email revelations.

The rush of departures has raised questions about her continued charitable involvement and whether she may, like Andrew, live outside the UK to escape reputational and financial pressure.

While no formal criminal charges have yet been filed in either case, the scale of the allegations and public response suggest both former royals now face an uncertain future.

Andrew’s legal team has denied wrongdoing and stressed he remains a private citizen, while Ferguson has claimed the correspondence was written under threat and legal advice.
