Prada Opens Up Dialogue in First Campaign By Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons

Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons' debut collection opens up a group conversation through the Italian label's new campaign

The first collection from Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons' shared reign at Prada concluded with a conversation between the two designers during which they answered questions sent to the brand. Now, they're doing the asking, posing questions to their audience through Prada's newly unveiled Spring/Summer 2021 campaign. For the digitally-streamed show last September, the design duo built on themes surrounding technology and humanity. Juxtaposing these with images of the collection in the new campaign, the Italian house asks a selection of questions, imploring the viewer to reflect on life itself.

In the Spring/Summer 2021 collection, the extent to which techonolgy has impaced our views and self-perception-especially as we use it to navigate life throughout a pandemic-took center stage in its design and presentation. Simons tapped long-time collaborator Peter de Potter for prints and artwork, and the collection was recorded by multiple swirling cameras. Now for the campaign, creative director Ferdinando Verderi similarly ditches utlizing a lone photographer to capture the campaign's imagery, instead opting for hundreds of cameras circling the models to unearth unique views, coupling a technology-driven view with human curation that creates "conversation between man and machine."

Collaboration with its audience will play a pivotal part in the ongoing campaign. As Prada opens up questions regarding creativity, diversity, inclusivity, and sustainability to the fashion world, its followers are invited to weigh in by answering online.
