Post Office victims had lives 'utterly destroyed'

The Post Office scandal has devastated the lives of falsely accused sub-postmasters, their attorneys report.

Faulty Horizon software led to numerous wrongful convictions. The public inquiry currently underway is revealing the failures in legal proceedings against these individuals.

The inquiry's fourth phase, which included testimony from Post Office and Fujitsu staff, examined the flawed investigations and the lack of disclosure about Horizon's unreliability. Former Post Office CEO Paula Vennells and several politicians are scheduled to testify in the upcoming stages.

Tim Moloney KC summed up the fourth phase saying 76 sub-postmasters had their convictions overturned but not before their lives were shattered. Representing Hudgell Solicitors, he recounted their clients' despair and futile pleas for help, as dramatized by ITV's series on the ordeal.

The inquiry spotlighted the Post Office and Fujitsu's self-serving conduct over the welfare of sub-postmasters. The possibility of criminal investigations against certain testimonies has been raised.

The Justice for Sub-postmasters Alliance's Sam Stein KC described the process as debilitating and accused the Post Office of harboring contempt for sub-postmasters.

The Post Office publicly apologizes and is determined to rectify the wrongs and compensate those affected. Three more convictions were recently overturned, reinforcing their statement of regret.
