Police in London arrested 62 activists from the group Just Stop Oil following a demonstration in central London. The protesters lay down in the road near Parliament Square in Westminster, causing a roadblock.
The Metropolitan Police arrested the activists under section seven of the Public Order Act, which allows arrests if protesters intentionally or recklessly interfere with key national infrastructure, including road transport infrastructure.
Just Stop Oil had organized the protest to call attention to the government's fossil fuel policies. The group plans to march every day for a week and is willing to risk arrest by continuing to march when directed to stop.
