The former This Morning host confirmed that the relationship took place while he was still married.

He has resigned from ITV with immediate effect and will not present the British Soap Awards next month or a new prime-time series that ITV was developing with him.

Schofield separated from his wife in 2020 after coming out as gay, and he said he was "so, very, very sorry" for being unfaithful to his wife and for lying to his colleagues, agents, employers, the media, and the public.

Some former ITV daytime figures have suggested that the network has questions to answer about how much it knew about the relationship and what action it took.

The statement was made by Philip Schofield, a British television personality, regarding his involvement in a relationship and subsequent lies about it.

He expressed regret for his actions and asked that the media respect the privacy of the individual and their family.

Schofield had co-hosted the ITV daytime show This Morning since 2002, with co-host Holly Willoughby, who is currently on holiday but will return on June 5th.

Schofield's brother Timothy was recently jailed for 12 years for sexual abuse.
