Sir Keir Starmer, Leader of the Labour Party, expressed little surprise at the recent calls for a rerun of the general election after a petition on Parliament's website collected over two million signatures.

The petition, accusing the Labour government of breaking its promises, is the third most signed since 2010 and could lead to a parliamentary debate, though it would not automatically trigger a new election.

The UK systems allow citizens to start and sign petitions, with those reaching over 100,000 signatures considered for debate.

The current petition has gained attention from figures like Nigel Farage and Elon Musk, highlighting dissatisfaction five months after Labour's sweeping victory.

Despite securing 412 seats in the House of Commons, Labour only garnered 35% of the popular vote.

Starmer acknowledged on ITV's 'This Morning' that many did not initially support Labour but emphasized the importance of making 'big calls' on issues such as the NHS and education.

He maintained that governing through challenging times was preferable to days in opposition.
