Paul Bryan, a killer who assumed the identity of a deceased man with the same name, has been found guilty of murder after 39 years on the run. Bryan was 22 when he murdered 62-year-old Roman Szalajko in 1984 and then assumed a false identity, evading capture.
The Metropolitan Police solved the cold case by matching an unidentified fingerprint from the original investigation to Bryan's records, revealing that he had taken on the identity of a deceased Welsh man.
DNA evidence further linked Bryan to the crime scene. He was arrested in November 2022 after living under his assumed identity in Spain and Portugal and was found guilty of murder at the Old Bailey trial.
