A Deliveroo driver has been hailed a hero after intervening in a knife attack at a Dublin school with his motorcycle helmet, stopping the assailant and raising over £270,000 in support. The 43-year-old Caio Benicio from Rio de Janeiro witnessed the attack at Parnell Square East and intervened. During the incident, a five-year-old girl suffered a serious chest wound and her teacher, a woman in her 30s, was also severely injured; both remain hospitalized.

An online fundraiser titled "Buy Caio Benicio a Pint" surpassed its £173,000 goal, collecting over £278,000 from 30,000 donors. The city experienced turmoil post-incident, igniting far-right riots. Benicio expressed his disappointment at the violence, stating that despite some animosity towards immigrants, he instinctively acted to protect the child, using his helmet to disarm the attacker.

The Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, commended those, including international residents, who courageously intervened during the attack, referring to them as "real Irish heroes."
