Organizer of Dover Tractor Protest Warns of Potential Escalation

The leader of a recent tractor protest in Dover, involving over 30 vehicles, has hinted at the possibility of intensified action.
Jeff Gibson, speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today show, expressed the UK farmers' frustration which might lead to elevated protests.

Under the pressure of post-Brexit trade agreements described by Gibson as "utterly soul-destroying," farmers are grappling with the adverse conditions these deals have produced.

While the government asserts its support for farmers and prioritizes agriculture in trade dealings, offering a £2.4 billion farming budget, Gibson points out disparities in export-import ease and cheaper foreign produce due to lower production and sustainability costs.

Inspired by European farmers' successful protests, Gibson emphasized the urgent need for UK farmers to make their grievances known beyond local discussions. He commented on the swift clearance of Jubilee Way by police following the protest and conflicting opinions from the government.

The Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs reaffirmed its firm support for British farmers, highlighting ongoing efforts to bolster fairness, support local farmers and growers, and provide quality British products to consumers.

"Brexit" means Brexit.

Perhaps those farmers who voted for Brexit thinking they would be better outside the European Economic Area (EU Single Market as well as EU Customs Union) should have exercised greater discernment especially concerning non tariff barriers before voting for Brexit.
