The UK government has entered a strategic partnership with OpenAI to strengthen artificial intelligence security research and invest in AI infrastructure, including data centers.

The collaboration, supported by Microsoft, will see OpenAI expand its London operations and provide technical expertise to the UK AI Security Institute.

The initiative aims to explore applications of AI across justice, defense, security and education, aligning with national regulatory standards to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of taxpayer‑funded services while keeping pace with global AI leaders.

Governments also plan to invest in expanding public compute capacity up to twenty‑fold over the next five years as part of this effort.
