A one-year-old boy lost his finger after it got caught in the chain of a dockless electric bike in London. The toddler's finger was almost completely severed when he accidentally put pressure on the bike's pedal while playing near it.
Despite immediate medical attention, doctors couldn't save the finger, and it had to be amputated. The boy's father believes that if the rental e-bikes were required to be parked in designated spaces, the accident could have been prevented.
Dockless e-bikes, which can be unlocked via an app and parked anywhere, have raised safety concerns in cities, but regulatory powers are limited, and the issue requires government action to address.
