The strike will impact thousands of planned care appointments and operations, but certain units will have staff to ensure patient safety.

The RCN Wales wants better working conditions and a further rise in pay, and plans to reopen the ballot for further action in July.

The Welsh government has announced an improved pay deal for NHS staff, but the RCN members in Wales voted to reject the offer and have scheduled these two days of industrial action.

The RCN Wales chief said members do not want to strike but need better commitments from the Welsh government to retain nurses in the profession.

The Welsh government is disappointed that strike action is continuing and is working with the NHS, unions, and partners to ensure patient safety and minimize disruption.

Nurses in Wales went on strike in December, which sparked a wave of discontent among healthcare workers.

Six months later, the majority of unions representing healthcare workers have accepted an improved pay offer from the Welsh government, which benefits all health workers except doctors.

However, the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) said its members were not bound by the collective decision and were still striking.
