Nurse who raped woman continued working for a year despite police alert
John Iwuh exploited his role to assault a date and regulators failed to suspend him promptly.
A Yahoo News report reveals that psychiatric nurse John Chukwu‑no‑so Iwuh raped a woman he met on a dating app in June 2022 but remained employed with vulnerable patients for more than a year because the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) delayed suspending him:contentReference[oaicite:24]{index=24}.
Police had warned the regulator after his arrest, yet he continued to work while awaiting trial, during which time he had access to nearly 11,000 contacts on his phone:contentReference[oaicite:25]{index=25}.
Iwuh was eventually convicted and jailed, and the NMC admitted it had not acted quickly enough.
Two hospital trusts have launched investigations, and police are urging any other victims to come forward.
