The attacks occurred in less than two hours and involved a suspect who was later Tasered and arrested on suspicion of murder.

The suspect is a migrant of West African origin and has a history of mental health issues.

Counter-terrorism police are assisting in the investigation but are not running it.

The victims have not been formally identified, but one of the students was named as Barnaby Webber, a cricketer and student at Nottingham University.

The other student and the man in his 50s were not identified.

The attack involved a stabbing and a van attack, with the van believed to have been stolen from the older stabbing victim.

Several roads in Nottingham were closed, and armed officers were seen on the city's streets.

Nottingham's three MPs described the area as being "devastated" by the bloodshed.

The incident has sent shockwaves through Nottingham's large student population.

Two teenage victims of a stabbing attack at a Nottingham McDonald's were students at the University of Nottingham, which cancelled a graduation event in response.

Nottingham Trent University contacted its students to reassure them and encourage them to speak to staff about safety concerns.

A church vigil was held in the city, and the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham said the city is "in shock" but comes together in friendship.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Home Secretary Suella Braverman expressed their condolences and urged anyone with information to report it to the police.
