Marius Borg Hoiby, the son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was arrested in Oslo on assault charges. Police suspect him of causing bodily harm and damage to a woman. Crown Prince Haakon called the situation serious but did not provide further comments.
Marius Borg Hoiby, the 27-year-old son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was arrested over the weekend in Oslo on suspicion of assaulting a woman.
The incident took place early Sunday at an apartment following an altercation.
Hoiby, born in 1997 from a prior relationship of the Crown Princess before her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon in 2001, was released from custody the next day.
Police confirmed Hoiby's involvement after the news was widely reported, saying he is suspected of causing 'bodily harm and damage.' Although the victim's identity has not been disclosed, police noted a relationship between Hoiby and the woman and stated that she did not suffer serious injuries.
Crown Prince Haakon, currently in Paris for the Olympics, acknowledged the gravity of the situation but declined further comment.
