The South's military has notified the Japanese government of the launch, which Pyongyang had confirmed earlier and planned to take place before June 11.

The move has been criticized by the international community due to the violation of UN sanctions that bar North Korea from any tests using ballistic missile technology.

North Korea has been conducting a string of banned weapons tests since diplomacy collapsed in 2019.

North Korea is planning to launch a satellite into orbit, which is a violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

South Korea's foreign ministry has condemned the launch plan and stated that North Korea will bear the "price and pain" if it goes ahead with the launch.
