Iga Swiatek, the world number two and reigning French Open champion, defeated Coco Gauff, the third-ranked player and reigning US Open champion, in a group-stage match at the WTA Finals.

Swiatek won the match 6-0, 7-5, in a showdown between two young Grand Slam champions. The victory improved Swiatek's chances of overtaking Aryna Sabalenka for the year-end world number one ranking. Swiatek has a 2-0 record in the tournament but has not yet clinched a semi-final berth.
