Nigel Railton to be New Post Office Chair: Ex-Camelot Boss Approved by Kemi Badenoch
Nigel Railton, a former Camelot boss, is set to be appointed as the new chairman of the Post Office.
The appointment has been approved by Kemi Badenoch, the business secretary, and is expected to be announced on Wednesday.
Railton stepped down as Camelot boss last year.
The appointment comes as ministers aim to move past the controversy surrounding the departure of Henry Staunton as Post Office chairman.
A new CEO, Mr Railton, is set to join the Post Office to address the fallout from the Horizon IT scandal, which involves hundreds of millions of pounds in compensation for sub-postmasters.
He will replace Henry Staunton, who was dismissed after making public allegations against current CEO Nick Read and former minister Victoria Badenoch regarding their conduct.
The government has expressed confidence in Nick Read despite bullying allegations.
Kevin Hollinrake, the Post Office minister, stated that Mr. Read had attempted to increase his pay and threatened to resign if his demands were not met.
Despite this, Mr. Read was selected for the role due to his extensive private sector experience and a "sound commercial brain." Neil Sachdev, who chairs the state-owned Land Registry, was also considered for the position.
