New High Court appointment | Justice Ann-Marie Smith reassigned to Antigua
A new High Court judge has been assigned to the British Virgin Islands now that Justice Ann-Marie Smith has been reassigned to the twin-island state of Antigua and Barbuda.
This is according to a notice on the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court’s website, which indicates that Justice Smith’s appointment in Antigua and Barbuda will take effect from January 1, 2020.
Her final day as a sitting judge in the British Virgin Islands will be on Friday, December 13, 2019, when the court closes for the Christmas break.
The Jamaican national was formerly the Chief Magistrate in Belize before she was appointed by the Judicial and Legal Services Commission to the BVI on February 15, 2018.
Justice Ward to take over
His Lordship, Justice Trevor Ward, QC, will take over from Justice Smith. His appointment will be from January 11 to April 9, 2020, the website indicated further.
The Trinidad & Tobago native was previously appointed as the resident High Court judge in St Kitts and Nevis.
He once held the position of Director of Public Prosecutions in the Cayman Islands and Senior State Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in his home country.
