This development follows a substantial increase in the platform's subscriber base, which now exceeds 300 million globally after gaining 19 million subscribers in the last quarter of 2024.
The California-based streaming service reported record revenues of 39 billion US dollars in 2024, a significant rise from 33.7 billion dollars in 2023. Operating income also saw a substantial increase, reaching 10.4 billion dollars compared to 7 billion dollars the previous year.
Netflix attributed part of its success to the streaming of the Jake Paul vs.
Mike Tyson boxing match in November, which the company claimed became the most-streamed sporting event in history.
Popular content such as Bridgerton and Fool Me Once provided additional support to subscriber growth.
The new pricing structure will see the cheapest ad-supported plan in the US increase by one dollar to 7.99 US dollars per month.
The company has not disclosed whether similar price hikes will occur for UK subscribers.
The boost in Netflix’s content library, including successful non-English language titles like the Korean series Squid Game and Spanish film Society Of The Snow, has helped grow its subscriber base.
Additionally, Netflix's venture into live programming, which includes securing US broadcasting rights for the FIFA Women’s World Cup for 2027 and 2031, underscores its diversified content strategy.
Netflix did not offer statements on future pricing strategies beyond the announced increases.
With its current business performance, Netflix maintains its position as a leader in the streaming industry.
