Netanyahu Rejects UN Conclusions on Gaza as 'Untrue'
The Israeli Prime Minister has condemned a UN report alleging that Israel is committing acts of genocide in Gaza as the conflict continues.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement on Thursday condemning a United Nations investigation that determined Israel had engaged in 'genocidal acts' in the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu criticized the UN Human Rights Council as 'an anti-Israeli circus' that has lost its credibility, claiming it operates on principles of anti-Semitism and corruption.
He argued that the UN chose to concentrate on allegations against Israel while ignoring what he described as the atrocities committed by Hamas, which he referred to as a terrorist organization.
Netanyahu called the claims in the UN report 'false' and 'absurd,' particularly taking issue with allegations concerning the destruction of sexual and reproductive healthcare facilities in Gaza.
Earlier on Thursday, the UN Commission of Inquiry stated that Israel had 'intentionally attacked and destroyed' the primary fertility center in Gaza, emphasizing the total siege imposed by Israel that hindered the delivery of vital aid, including medications crucial for safe pregnancies and neonatal care.
The commission asserted that Israeli actions have systematically reduced the reproductive capacity of Palestinians in Gaza, constituting two types of genocidal acts.
This inquiry was carried out by a three-member Independent International Commission of Inquiry established by the UN Human Rights Council in May 2021. The commission's task is to investigate alleged violations of international law in Israel and the Palestinian territories amid ongoing conflicts, which have intensified significantly following the attacks by Hamas militants on October 7, 2023.
