Nathan Gill, the former leader of Reform UK in Wales, has been formally charged with nine counts related to bribery after an investigation conducted by the Metropolitan Police’s counter-terrorism command.

The charges include one count of conspiracy to commit bribery, in accordance with the Criminal Law Act 1977, and eight counts under the Bribery Act 2010. Gill, 51 years old, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 24 February.

A spokesperson for Reform UK clarified that Gill is not currently a member of the party and has never been affiliated with it, stating, "He’s nothing to do with the party.

Membership records show he has never been a member." This assertion contradicts evidence from 2021, which depicts Gill campaigning for Reform UK while wearing a rosette, alongside Richard Tice, the current deputy leader of Reform UK.

The investigation that led to Gill's charges was initiated after police interviewed a man under caution on 3 March 2022 regarding bribery allegations.

Following a thorough inquiry, and with the endorsement of the Crown Prosecution Service's counter-terrorism division, Gill was charged via postal requisition.

Gill's political career includes serving as a Member of the European Parliament for UKIP, a role he undertook from 2014 until the conclusion of the UK's membership in the European Union.

He later left UKIP, criticizing the party for shifting its focus away from Brexit in favour of what he characterized as an anti-Islam agenda.

In 2019, he represented Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party, a precursor to Reform UK, during his time in the European Parliament.

In addition to his European Parliament tenure, Gill was a member of the then National Assembly for Wales from May 2016 until December 2017. After departing from UKIP, he stood as an independent and later emerged as the leader of Reform UK in Wales during the 2021 Senedd elections, although he did not secure a seat.

Gill’s last public statements, made on his X account in 2021, reflected on his time as the final MEP for Wales and expressed his patriotic sentiments, alongside his commitment to his faith as a Mormon.

He has described his lifestyle choices, such as being teetotal, and previously served as a bishop within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Anglesey.
