South Africa has accused Israel of violating the 1948 UN Genocide Convention due to their military actions initiated in response to attacks by Hamas on October 7.

Namibia, which suffered a genocide under German colonialism in the early 20th century, has denounced Germany's support for Israel, with President Hage Geingob questioning Germany's defense of Israel in the face of Palestinian casualties in Gaza.

Germany, on the other hand, has rejected South Africa's allegations against Israel as unfounded political manipulation of the Genocide Convention.

However, Namibia has highlighted that Germany has not fully made amends for its own genocide against the Herero and Nama peoples between 1904 and 1908.

Despite Germany's recognition of this historical atrocity and its pledge of significant development aid to the descendants, Namibia remains critical of Germany's current foreign policy position.
