The unidentified object was reported to authorities by residents near Green Head town on the Mid-West coast on Sunday afternoon.
While the object's origin and nature remain unknown, the Western Australian police have urged people to refrain from drawing conclusions about its origins.
"The investigation is ongoing, and until further information is available, we urge everyone to refrain from drawing conclusions," Western Australia Police said in a statement.
The police do not believe that the object originated from a commercial aircraft, and are currently trying to determine if it is hazardous.
Officers from the Western Australia Police Force are guarding the object to maintain its integrity, according to a spokesperson.
Pictures and videos of the object, which appears to be copper-coloured and in a damaged state, have been shared on social media.
Some people have linked it to UFOs, while others have suggested that it could be a missing Malaysian MH370 flight.
However, the Australian Space Agency is investigating the object and believes that it could be a fuel cylinder from the third stage of India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle rocket or Chandrayaan-3.
"It's surprising because it's such a large fragment.
And it makes you wonder what was going on at the time if maybe a marine weather event dislodged it and brought it ashore," Dr Alice Gorman, a space archaeologist, told The Guardian.
The Australian space agency is liaising with other international agencies to determine the object's origin.
"It is possible that it could have fallen from a foreign space launch vehicle," the agency said in a statement.
While the object's origins remain a mystery, it has sparked interest among space enthusiasts and experts alike.
"It is very interesting though, and is a way regular everyday people can get close to space, as often these things turn into souvenirs.
People like to keep some space junk," Dr Gorman added.
The investigation is ongoing, and local authorities are urging people to stay away from the object until its origins and nature have been determined.
