The ferry was taken out of service for maintenance in October of the previous year, but the work faced delays. A replacement vessel also experienced several breakdowns.
The Corran Ferry plays a crucial role in connecting communities, including Fort William, Ardgour, Sunart, Ardnamurchan, Moidart, Morar, Morvern, and the Isle of Mull.
During its absence, drivers had to take a 42-mile detour. The Corran Ferry is Scotland's busiest single-vessel ferry route, serving over 270,000 cars annually. Highland Council expressed regret for the delays and their impact on the public and businesses.
The council cited delays in sourcing parts and specialist manufacturing work in Europe as contributing factors to the extended downtime. Extensive overhauls were conducted on the MV Corran to reduce the risk of in-service failures.
