The attack on Wednesday significantly damaged the Barbados-flagged, Liberian-owned M/V True Confidence, causing the crew to abandon the ship.

The British Embassy in Yemen lamented the deaths, attributing them to the Houthi group's indiscriminate missile attacks on international shipping. They emphasized the victims were innocently caught in the conflict.

This incident marked the fifth time in two days that the Iranian-supported Houthis launched anti-ship missiles, with two hitting commercial ships and one being intercepted by a US destroyer.

The Houthis started targeting ships in the Red Sea back in November, claiming to support Palestinians against Israel-linked vessels amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.

Following these attacks, US and UK forces have carried out strikes against Houthi forces, who now consider American and British interests as viable targets.

The situation has escalated tensions throughout the Middle East, with Iran-backed groups in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen reacting to the ongoing violence stemming from the conflict that intensified after an attack by Hamas on October 7.
