Miranda Kerr talks crystals in skincare and how the KORA Organics Turmeric Glow Foaming Cleanser changed her beauty routine

Miranda Kerr knows a thing or two when it comes to beauty. Here, she talks us through her beauty routine and infusing skincare with crystals.

When it comes to beauty, Australia's patron angel Miranda Kerr knows a thing or two. An instantly recognisable enigma of radiance and effortless beauty, Kerr's routine and beauty secrets have always been a hot commodity. So, when we're given even a little glimpse of what her beauty bag looks like, you best believe we take it.

The KORA Organics founder and CEO has always inspired us with her holistic and minimal approach to beauty; channeling that same energy into the coveted products and ingredients that underpin her brand. With the addition of another product to the lineup – the newly-launched Turmeric Glow Foaming Cleanser – we're taking a leaf out of Kerr's book as we prepare to guide our skin through Australian winter.

Below, we talk to the RUSSH cover star about optimising your skincare routine for hydration, how the new Turmeric Glow Foaming Cleanser has changed her skin routine and the benefit of incorporating crystals in skincare.

What are the three essentials you can't live without in your daily beauty routine?

If I had to choose three, it would be my new KORA Organics Turmeric Glow Foaming Cleanser, our Turmeric 2:1 Brightening and Exfoliating Mask and the Noni Glow Face Oil.

As we head into winter here in Australia. We would love to know what you do to protect your skin in the winter months?

Hydrate and protect!

The skin's barrier can become compromised during the cooler months as there is naturally less moisture in the air due to the environment and abrasive conditions, like the wind. Indoor factors like central heating can also decrease the moisture level of the air, this makes it harder for the skin to maintain its natural protective oils, which act as a barrier against environmental aggressors. As a result, moisture gets pulled from the skin, leading it to become dry and cracked.

I love to use our Noni Glow Face Balm during the cooler months, it’s super hydrating and protects your skin from the drying effects of the winter elements. It is packed with antioxidants and essential fatty acids—and perfect quick, on-the-go application. I keep one in my bag at all times as I also use it on my boys.

What can you tell us about the new Turmeric Glow Foaming Cleanser?

The Turmeric Glow Foaming Cleanser is a super invigorating, ph balanced gel cleanser that transforms into a lathering foam to thoroughly cleanse away dirt, oil, and other impurities. Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial ingredient, it helps with acne and brightens any dark spots and pigmentation. What I love about it, is that it's so powerful and soothing at the same time for your skin. The peppermint, palo santo and rosemary aromatherapy wakes up both your skin and your senses whilst deeply cleaning your skin without stripping your skin.

How important is hydration in your skincare/wellness routine?

It is so important! Our body is made up of 60% water so ensuring you drink lots of water is a necessity along with a well balanced diet to function at your best.

A hydrated complexion also looks more plump, healthy and youthful. Keeping your skin hydrated will help improve skin elasticity which will reduce the appearance of wrinkles and it helps to combat oiliness. I also drink 2 litres of water and 1 litre of celery juice a day, keeping your body hydrated has huge benefits for your skin.

What methods of exercise are you currently enjoying?

I am loving a mix of pilates, yoga, Megan Roup’s The Sculpt Society and Tracy Anderson method. I try to get in a workout everyday, it’s part of my wellness routine, and gives me mental clarity and energy.

We know the Turmeric Foaming Cleanser is energised with citrine. Are there any crystals you like to incorporate in your wellness routine?

Yes, all of our Turmeric range is energised with citrine crystal which is believed to support self-confidence, abundance and positivity. At KORA Organics, we have created a unique infusion process into all of our skincare formulas, in which we filter our products through Rose Quartz crystals, and for some of our newer products like The Active Algae Lightweight Moisturizer and Minty Mineral Hydration Mist we have infused Aquamarine crystal which is a stone believed to help calm and soothe.

I love crystals and have them placed all over my home. Rose Quartz has always been the crystal I’ve naturally gravitated to my whole life. During my meditations, I often hold a small Rose Quartz in my hand as it feels very nurturing and calming. Rose Quartz crystals are a soft-pink gemstone that carries a very gentle, soothing energy to encourage love and forgiveness.

What are some practices you use to stay calm?

For self-care, regular meditation helps me stay calm and centred. I try to meditate for at least 20 mins twice a day—morning and night.

Part of the reason I work out everyday is because of the mental clarity it brings, even if it’s only 30 minutes, it makes such a difference! I also find putting my feet in the grass and facing my palms towards the sun makes me feel so grounded, especially in a stressful situation.

What do you do to wind down in the evenings?

I love having a bath with candles and aromatherapy oils to wind down at night but I don't always have time for this. Something I do religiously every night to wind down is my skincare routine. This is part of my selfcare. I find it so relaxing and calming before getting into bed after a busy day. I also try to find time for an evening 20 minute meditation right before I sleep.

You often speak of the importance of beauty coming from the inside out. What supplements do you use to support your skin and bodily health?

I talk about this all the time but celery juice, I drink 1 litre of celery juice every morning on an empty stomach, I started with half a litre and have worked my way up. Even my husband, who’s not really into health like I am, loves his celery juice now. It took him two weeks and then he was converted. It has made such a huge difference to my energy levels, digestive system and mental clarity. If there’s one thing people can do for their inner health, it’s celery juice.

What is the best skincare tip you’ve ever received?

Don’t forget to wash your face before bed no matter how long the day has been. It's so important to cleanse and nourish your skin before sleeping.
