On Tuesday, 129 individuals completed the crossing in two boats, bringing the provisional annual total to 1,019, a record high for the time of year.
This new milestone was achieved by January 21, the fastest ascent to 1,000 arrivals in any year since the data collection began in 2018, as analyzed by the Press Association (PA).
By comparison, during 2022, another record-setting year, the same number of arrivals was not recorded until January 23.
In 2024, the 1,000 arrivals mark was reached on January 28. The figures illustrate a significant increase in early-year crossings compared to previous years; 621 people had arrived by this time in 2024, with only 280 recorded in 2023.
The influx has continued over recent days.
On Wednesday, additional migrants were seen disembarking from a Border Force vessel in Dover, Kent, wearing life jackets.
This ongoing situation remains a point of focus for UK authorities as they manage the complexities of immigration and border security.
