MI6 Chief Richard Moore Speaks Out on Recruiting Russians, AI, and Engaging with China

MI6 Chief Richard Moore has announced that the UK's Secret Intelligence Service is "always open" to recruiting Russians who are dissatisfied with the regime of Vladimir Putin.

In a rare public address, Moore spoke in Prague at a POLITICO event held at the British ambassador's residence.

He stressed that MI6 would handle any offers of help from potential recruits with discretion and professionalism, and that their secrets would be safe with the service.

Moore argued that Russia's military aims in Ukraine are failing and that AI can assist, rather than replace, human intelligence.

He pointed out that AI can trawl vast amounts of open source information, but that human spies have unique characteristics that enable them to access secrets beyond the reach of AI's nets.

Moore also revealed that MI6 now devotes "more resources to China than anywhere else", emphasizing the need to keep lines of communication open with Beijing.

He stated that engaging with China is necessary for addressing any international problem of importance, as it is impossible to tackle any such issues without Beijing's involvement.

Following his speech, Moore will be interviewed by POLITICO's Anne McElvoy.

The interview will be available to stream here.
