Meta Rejects Google's Virtual Reality Partnership Offer

Meta Platforms has turned down a proposition from Alphabet to integrate Google's new Android XR platform into Meta's Quest headsets for virtual and mixed reality.

According to The Information, this decision rejects Alphabet's offer for collaboration on their forthcoming platform designed for various reality-enhancing devices.

This move reportedly aligns with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's ambition to dominate future platforms for AR, VR, and mixed reality technologies.

Meta is already engaging with potential hardware partners, such as LG Electronics, to develop new VR hardware based on Quest's software ecosystem, sources say. Both Meta and LG have not commented on these discussions, while Alphabet has chosen not to remark on the report.

Currently, Meta's Quest devices operate on a modified open-source version of the Android system. Meanwhile, Apple has made its own foray into the sector with the recent launch of the Vision Pro mixed reality headset.
