The Australian Defence Department pressured Meta to remove a popular veterans meme page from Facebook and Instagram, as well as dozens of posts, including those referencing the widely used Downfall meme.

The Pineapple Express page, followed by defense veterans and personnel, had previously been taken down but reappeared.

While Meta removed some content that identified individual Australian Defence Force members, it refused to remove other posts, including a meme involving the defense force chief, Gen Angus Campbell, and a Downfall meme about the army.

Defense raised concerns about content that could harm its personnel, but Meta's transparency report does not specify how many of its content removals were in response to government requests.
