Met Police Commissioner Apologizes for Past Homophobic Treatment of LGBT+ Campaigner

Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Mark Rowley, has apologized to LGBT+ campaigner Peter Tatchell for the force's past failings, including homophobic treatment.

Sir Mark acknowledged that the Met Police had systems and processes in place that led to bias and discrimination, and that recent cases of racist, misogynistic, homophobic, and transphobic behavior by some officers have revealed that there are still issues within the organization.

Tatchell thanked Sir Mark for being the first UK police chief to apologize and hoped that other police forces would follow suit.

The Peter Tatchell Foundation launched a campaign calling for all UK police chiefs to apologize for the "decades-long victimization" of the LGBT+ community.
