Meghan Markle Showcases Australian Designers as Sussexes Launch New Tour in Melbourne

Duchess highlights local fashion labels while joining Prince Harry for a renewed programme of charitable engagements across Australia
Meghan Markle opened her latest visit to Australia with a deliberate and polished tribute to the country’s fashion industry, as she and Prince Harry began a four-day programme of engagements in Melbourne.

Arriving for their first visit to Australia in eight years, the couple embarked on a series of charitable and community-focused appearances spanning Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.

Although no longer working members of the British royal family, they continue to undertake public-facing initiatives aligned with causes such as mental health, veterans’ welfare and support for vulnerable communities.

On the opening day, the Duchess of Sussex adopted what has become known as “diplomatic dressing,” choosing pieces from Australian designers to underscore her connection with the host nation.

She first appeared in a sleeveless navy dress by Sydney-based label Karen Gee, paired with Dior shoes and jewellery from Real Fine Studio.

The ensemble echoed a consistent aesthetic she has maintained in recent public appearances, favouring neutral tones and minimalist tailoring while using her platform to spotlight both established and emerging designers.

Later in the day, during a visit to the Australian National Veterans’ Art Museum, she changed into a coordinated suede skirt and jacket set by Australian brand St. Agni, reinforcing the same understated palette and local emphasis.

The couple’s first engagements included a visit to Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital, where they met patients, families and staff in a setting that carried echoes of earlier royal tours.

The visit highlighted their continued focus on youth wellbeing and healthcare initiatives.

Meghan also undertook a solo visit to a women’s support centre, serving meals and engaging directly with residents, further underlining her advocacy for women facing hardship and homelessness.

Their return to Australia blends elements of past royal tours with a more independent framework, combining philanthropic outreach with private and professional engagements.

While public reactions have varied, the couple’s programme signals an ongoing effort to maintain international relevance through a mix of social initiatives and high-profile appearances.

Across the opening day, Meghan Markle’s wardrobe choices remained central to the visual narrative of the tour, positioning fashion not merely as personal style but as a deliberate instrument of cultural engagement and economic support for local designers.
