The CEO of McDonald's UK and Ireland, Alistair Macrow, has responded to allegations of sexual harassment, racism, and bullying made by over 100 current and former employees.

Macrow described the allegations as "personally and professionally shocking" and vowed to take measures to investigate the complaints.

The allegations, which were made by employees as young as 17, include claims of groping, harassment, racial abuse, and bullying.

One employee reported that a senior manager had choked her and grabbed her bottom, while another claimed that male managers at a Welsh branch had made bets about sleeping with new recruits.

Another former worker reported that there was an outbreak of gonorrhoea at a restaurant where sexual relationships between staff were common.

In response to the allegations, McDonald's has confirmed that a new unit will be established to crack down on sexual harassment and bullying.

The unit will be run by HR and legal professionals and will investigate any substantiated breaches of the company's code of conduct, with the most severe measures, including dismissal, being taken against those found guilty.

Macrow also stated that external experts will be hired to examine the staff complaints process, amid allegations that issues were not properly escalated.

He emphasized the company's "unequivocal insistence on zero tolerance of harassment of any kind" and its commitment to promoting a culture of respect and inclusivity throughout the business.

The fast food chain has faced similar allegations in the past, with employees in the United States filing lawsuits against the company in 2018 and 2019, alleging widespread sexual harassment.

In response, McDonald's announced a number of measures to improve its workplace culture and address these issues.

The current allegations come as the spotlight shines on workplace harassment and abuse, with a growing movement pushing for changes to address these issues.

Companies across a range of industries have faced scrutiny for their handling of workplace misconduct and have been forced to take steps to
