MasterChef Star Forced to Shut Down Restaurant Due to 'Devastating' Price Hikes
MasterChef finalist Tony Rodd has announced the closure of his Blackheath restaurant, Copper & Ink, due to overwhelming price increases.
Despite efforts to save the establishment during the holiday season, ongoing financial challenges, the pandemic's aftermath, rising living and energy costs, and supplier price hikes have rendered the business unsustainable.
The decrease in customer visits has further strained operations. Rodd expressed deep gratitude for the community's support over the past five years and the privilege of being part of the Blackheath Village community.
A tearful Tony and his wife Becky conveyed their heartbreak in a video, hinting at the likelihood of similar closures across the industry.
Concurrently, Simon Rimmer of Sunday Brunch revealed the closure of his Manchester restaurant, Greens, after 33 years. Facing a steep 35% rent increase and rising operational costs, Rimmer deemed his business untenable.
In an emotional message, he expressed his sorrow and thanked all who supported Greens over the years.
