In Coachella, California, sheriff's deputies arrested Vem Miller, a 49-year-old from Las Vegas, for illegally possessing a shotgun and a loaded handgun near a Donald Trump rally.

The incident occurred on Saturday, and the Secret Service confirmed that neither Trump nor attendees were in danger.

The Riverside County Sheriff's office, in coordination with the FBI and the US Attorney's office, continues to investigate the matter.

Miller, who drove up in a black SUV, was detained at a checkpoint and later released on bail pending a court hearing on January 2.

The arrest was made amidst heightened security after two prior assassination attempts on Trump.

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, who addressed the rally, stated that further charges could be filed by federal authorities.

The Trump campaign has not commented on the incident.

Despite California's Democratic leanings, Trump's rally attracted a large crowd even as temperatures soared.
