Man Who Set Fire to Mosque-Goers Sentenced to Indefinite Hospitalization for Attempted Murder
A 29-year-old man named Mohammed Abbkr was sentenced to indefinite detention in a hospital after being found guilty of attempting to murder two elderly men in separate incidents.
The first incident occurred in February 2022, outside a mosque in London, and the second incident happened in March 2022, outside a mosque in Birmingham.
Abbkr set fire to the men as they were walking home.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) stated that there was no evidence of a specific ideology motivating Abbkr's actions, so the incidents were not classified as terrorist attacks.
Mohammed Abbkr was sentenced to a hospital order at Birmingham Crown Court due to his severe mental illness.
The judge described this as a result of Abbkr's horrific acts of violence against two elderly members of the public.
These actions caused severe injuries, psychological trauma, and significant shock and concern in London and Birmingham communities.
