The sentence was handed down by Justice John Jones at Newport magistrates court with the condition that Weaver attend a 'building better relationships' course. Although Weaver had a history of violence, including 62 prior offences and several against former partners, no restraining order was issued at the time.

However, shortly after his release, Weaver attacked his ex-girlfriend again. As a result, he received a 26-week jail term, was ordered to pay compensation, and a two-year restraining order was established. The victim had previously mentioned staying in contact with Weaver out of fear, and his lawyer acknowledged Weaver's history of violence, especially under the influence of his cocaine addiction.
