Xylazine, which is also known as "tranq," is a tranquilizer used on cows and horses, but it is now flooding the illicit drug market in the US and has been found in the system of the man from Solihull, West Midlands.
The man had a history of drug abuse and the drug was found to be mixed with fentanyl and heroin.
This is the first reported death associated with Xylazine use in the UK, indicating its entry into the country's drug supply.
Xylazine is known to have severe effects on users, including the development of sores and in some cases, the loss of a limb.
