Between 15 May 2022 and 4 March 2023, McCarthy harassed Nokes, the MP for Romsey and Southampton North, via emails and voicemails.

He also targeted Steve Smith, former head of stronger communities, neighborhoods, and housing at Southampton city council, with threatening voicemails from 14 to 21 November 2022.
