Mohammed Abbkr, who has been convicted of attempted murder after setting fire to two elderly worshippers outside mosques in London and Birmingham.
In separate attacks in February and March, Abbkr sprayed petrol on and set alight Hashi Odowa, 82, and Mohammed Rayaz, 70. During one of the attacks, Abbkr told his victim, Mr. Odowa, "I swear in the name of Allah, in the name of God, you will know me."
Both victims required hospital treatment, with Mr. Rayaz suffering life-changing injuries. Abbkr admitted to setting fire to both men but is awaiting sentencing. The court is considering a proposal for a hospital order due to psychiatric concerns.
During the trial, it was revealed that Abbkr claimed those he attacked were not human and believed they were controlling him through magic. Despite the severity of the attacks, there was no evidence of a particular ideology, so the incidents were not treated as terrorist attacks.
The attacks were described as "absolutely horrific" and "random and severe." The victims and their families were praised for their courage, and the verdict was seen as a step towards justice for them.
