A 43-year-old man, Andrew Clark, has died following an assault outside a Sainsbury’s supermarket in south-east London.

Clark sustained severe head injuries during the incident, which occurred outside the Bromley Upper Elmers End Road store.

Emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service, responded promptly to the scene on Sunday night, providing immediate medical treatment before transporting him to a hospital.

Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Clark passed away from his injuries on Wednesday.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Clark’s family has been notified and is receiving support from specialist officers.

A suspect was apprehended shortly after the assault and appeared before Bromley Magistrates' Court.

This individual has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on April 15.

Liam Conlon, the Member of Parliament for Beckenham and Penge, commended the police for their rapid action in identifying and arresting the suspect.

He expressed condolences to Clark's family and offered his support during this tragic time.

In response to inquiries regarding the incident's nature, a Sainsbury’s spokesperson clarified that the attack was unassociated with the supermarket’s staff.

The spokesperson confirmed that the store was temporarily closed while cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.

The emergency response included multiple resources, such as an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, and an incident response officer, alongside a trauma team from London's Air Ambulance, who treated Clark at the scene before his transfer to a major trauma center.
