The incident occurred on Saturday as Al Shaar was attempting to board a flight to Beirut.
The cash was discovered hidden in suitcases, a detection officials attributed to the vigilance and expertise of Border Force personnel.
Andy Noyes, branch commander of the National Crime Agency (NCA), remarked that the detection underscores the significant threats posed by organized crime motivated by financial gain, and emphasized the pivotal role of Border Force officers in this interception.
In comments made to the press, a Home Office spokesperson recognized the operation as evidence of the agency's commitment to securing UK borders and ensuring public safety.
The spokesperson noted that officers are trained to identify suspicious behavior and assess movements of illicit cash and other prohibited items across borders.
The Home Office confirmed ongoing collaborative efforts with law enforcement partners, including the NCA, to disrupt criminal networks involved in money laundering and related activities.
