Maldives Prosecutor General, Appointed by Previous Government, Reportedly Brutally Stabbed

Maldives' Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem, appointed by the previous administration, was stabbed in a brutal attack, as per reports.

The incident put him in ADK Hospital for treatment. Shameem was selected by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) which is now seeking to impeach President Mohamed Muizzu.

The stabbing occurred amidst political turmoil, including a disruptive vote in Parliament and clashes between MPs. Tensions rise as the opposition challenges Muizzu's orientation towards China, highlighted by a Chinese spy ship's visit to Male. The impeachment effort follows this controversy.

Opposition parties have condemned the government's shift from India, emphasizing the need for strong regional alliances. Leader Qasim Ibrahim of the Jumhooree Party has called on President Muizzu to apologize to India.

This comes after the Solih administration denounced the "India Out" campaign and after claims of President Muizzu's increasing anti-India sentiment, including his call for the removal of Indian troops from the Maldives.
