London's Iconic British Telecom Tower Sold To Become Hotel
BT Tower, an iconic landmark in London, has been sold for £275 million to MCR Hotels, a New York-based company, and will be converted into a hotel.
BT Group, the UK telecommunications company, disclosed the decision to redevelop the historic structure, which has shifted its functions to modern fixed and mobile networks.
The 177-meter-tall tower, completed in 1964 and opened by then-Prime Minister Harold Wilson in 1965, was originally known as the Post Office Tower and featured a revolving restaurant and an observation deck.
These attractions were shut down in 1971 after a bombing incident. The new owners intend to maintain the tower’s legacy and invite future generations to experience its history as it begins a new chapter.
