London Police Appeal for Information in Covent Garden Assault Case

Suspect in Random Attacks on Elderly Man and Off-Duty Officer Sought by Authorities
The Metropolitan Police have issued a fresh appeal for information following random assaults on two individuals, including an elderly man who sustained a serious head injury, in Covent Garden, central London.

The incidents occurred on October 12, at approximately 10:30 pm, according to police sources.

Detectives released a second CCTV image capturing the suspect, described as a white male, around 5 feet 9 inches tall, of medium build, seen wearing a black jacket during the time of the assaults.

He was last observed fleeing towards Bedford Street.

The attacks took place in quick succession, reportedly beginning near the Royal Opera House.

An off-duty officer, affiliated with the Central East Command Unit, was struck from behind but did not sustain injuries.

Shortly thereafter, the assailant confronted a pensioner on King Street.

Initially engaging him under the pretense of asking for directions, the suspect then pushed the elderly man, causing him to fall, resulting in a bleed on the brain and temporary unconsciousness.

The elderly victim, who required 15 stitches, has been discharged from hospital but continues to experience ongoing effects from the injury.

Authorities report no connection between the victims, suggesting the assaults were random without a known motive.

Detective Constable Greg Atkins from the Met’s Central West Command Unit has urged the public for assistance, specifically those present during the event, to help identify the suspect.

The detective emphasized the importance of any information related to the whereabouts or activities of the individual depicted in the CCTV images.

The police encourage anyone with relevant details to contact them via 101, referencing CAD 7846/12OCT, or to reach out anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.

As investigations continue and no arrests have been made, the police remain vigilant in their efforts to resolve the case and ensure the safety of the public.
